Mexican Alebrijes March 2024 - grades 3-5
Learning Objectives:
I can use elements of Mexican folk art to sketch my own Alebrije
I can apply clay techniques and basic shapes to sculpt my Alebrije out of Clay
In this project students, after a lesson on mexican alebrije's, created their own after identifying the characteristics of mexican folk art displayed in traditional alebrije's. After an art history lesson on the origin of mexican alebrijes students identified three characteristics of the alebrijes: bright colors, non realistic, and based of many animals. Students wee tasked to make their own alebrijes, combining elements of their favorite animals they drew them out on paper first. After the students drew them on paper, they then created them out of clay.
Color Theory Candy Febuary 2024 - grades 9-11
Learning Objectives:
I can take my own reference photo, paying attention to light and composition.
I can apply my knowledge of color theory, perspective and color pencil techniques to complete a realistic colored pencil candy drawing.
In this project students, after a lesson on colored pencils and a guided practice drawing, were able to draw their own candy portraits. They took pictures of their own candy still lifes, practicing important elements of composition and were able to use their photo as a reference for their candy portraits. Students focused on light, shadow, and scale of their drawings.
